Israel and Egypt History

Egypt takes Israel (Hebrew/Jewish) peoples as slaves. -1200 BC

In 1947, Israel was declared a state. The Arab nations were against this declaration by the International Community (IC). This began the War of Independence, which led to Israel becoming an independent state on May 14, 1948. The Arab main countries who built forces against Israel were Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. This included Egypt, who contributed at least 20,000 troops. -(1947-48)

The war ended with the 'Amistice Agreement'. It provided temporary border location for each country called the 'Green Line'. The agreement between Egypt and Israel centered around the border of Gaza, the crossing of Suez Canal and the withdrawal of Egyptian military from Al Faluja. -1949

Rebel militant forces attack Israel from within Egypt, Jordan and Syria. -(1950-60)

Egypt breaks the 'Armistice agreement' via the stoppage of border crossing at the Suez Canal. They occupy the Gaza Strip. -1954​

The Egyptian mobilize forces with Jordan and the closer of Gulf of Aqaba, along with additional Arab nations to gain more territory from Israel. This resulted in a pre-war conquest by Israel which resulted in Israels' conquering of the Sinai Peninsula and the Gaza Strip. This all happen during the 6-day War. -1967

Jordan, Egypt, and the PLO initiate the War of Attrition against Israel, along the Suez Canal. However, this war only lead to the same territory Egypt had at the beginning of this war. -(1968-70)​

The Yom Kippur War occured in retaliation to areas (Gaza, West Bank, Golan Heights, Sinai) gained by Israel during the Six-Day war. This included Egypt, Syria and other Arab countries. Egypt seized the Suez Canal and eventually re-gained the Sinai. -1973

Although Israel signed various peace agreement, called the 'Separation of Forces' with Egypt (1974), it did not totally end the 30-year war until after the first steps of peace initiated with the 'Camp David Accord' agreement' under President Carter. -1978

The 'Camp David Accord' agreement, states that Israel will recognize the Sinai Peninsula as a state and return it back to Egypt with a limit to the number of Egyptian force in the Sinai. -1982

Israel built a fence to stop migrants and militant weapons from enter into Gaza. -(2010-13)

Political civil unrest began in Egypt. Islamic militant groups (Ansar Bait al-Maqdu, and ISIL) began an uprising to take the Sinai from the Egyptian governement. To protect Egyptian citizens and border they retaliated with the battle of Operation Eagle. Israel agreed to allow more Egyptian forces beyond the 'Camp David Accord' agreemnt into the Sinai. This intensified as they continued to attack Egyptian forces and launch more attacks into Israel. This led to the battle called Operation Sinai. Israel extended the agreement to allow Egyptian forces into the border territory of Israel (Gaza) to fight the insurgency. This continued for over a decade with over 15 different militant groups. The campaign was a success because by 2023 the threats have virtually diminished. -(2011-23)​

Overall, since the 'Camp David Accords', Israel and Egypt are at peace, however political issues from the Hamas-Israeli War has caused politcal friction, specifically dealing with the Palestine refugees. -2024
