Israel-Gaza History

During the Ottoman Empire the Jewish and Arab wanted the land of Israel. -1516

The Arab countries, including Egypt intiated the War of Independence, which led to Israel becoming an independent state on May 14, 1948. -(1948)

When Israel gained their independence and re-established Israel, many Palestinians fled to the Gaza Strip. -1948-49

The war ended with the 'Amistice Agreement'. It provided temporary border locations for each country called the 'Green Line'. This included the Gaza Strip. This strip was a contention between Egypt and Israel. -(1949)​

Egypt breaks the 'Armistice agreement' via the stoppage of border crossing at the Suez Canal. -1954​

Israel invades the Suez Canal and occupies Gaza. It is called the '1956 Suez Canal Crisis'. -(1956-57)

The attempts at peace began in Oslo, Norway, known as 'Oslo Accord'. Peace began to increase after the signing of the 'Declaration of Principle', under Clinton, which allowed the Palestinians to govern themselves. Israel gradually withdraws from Gaza. -1994

Hamas was elected as apart of the Palestinian Legislative Council, in Gaza. Civil war broke between Hamas and Fatah, in which Hamas won and began to govern Gaza. -2006

Their quest for control of Gaza, however led to various attack into Israeli territory. However, when Hamas captured, Israeli Corp. Shalit a fierce batte began called the 2006 Battle for Gaza. -(2006-07)
